Story of Baby Moses-Basket on the River

I was reading a true story tonight that brought me on the verge of tears. Happy tears. I’ve read it before, but it’s been awhile. It was the story of baby Moses.  Tonight I was studying my bible about priorities.  I got a bit sidetracked when DH said something about Moses and I was thinking, how did Moses know that he was a Hebrew? Someone must have told him. Possibly Pharoahs daughter, who raised him as her own.  But I also remembered that when Pharoahs daughter found Moses in the basket on the river, his sister had been watching from the brush, and she asked Pharoahs daughter if she should go and get a nurse of the Hebrew women to nurse the child.

You know what, I think I’m just going to write what it says there in Exodus 2:5-10 because God tells the story so much better than me. It gives me chills every time I read it and makes me cry! I can’t imagine having to be separated from my baby in order to save his life!

” And the daughter of Pharoah came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark(basket) among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

Then said his sister to Pharoah’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

And Pharoah’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

And Pharoah’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharoah’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.”

Isn’t that just the best story? I mean Jochebed had to put her baby in a basket on the river to save him from being killed by Pharoah, and I’m sure she did not know what God had in store, though she did know that God would take care of him somehow.  I’m sure she had no idea that she would get to nurse Moses and raise him until he was old enough to be weaned or old enough to be taught?. I’m not sure how long that was in those days but I’m sure it was probably at least a couple years.  If anyone has any info on that I’d love to hear.

Can you imagine? Wow,, God worked everything out so perfectly, as he always does, and baby Moses’ mother, Jochebed, was able to be reunited with him, and she even got paid wages for it!! Jochebed was rewarded so much because of her faith that God would take care of this child.  And then for Moses’ sister to be so bold as to approach Pharoah’s daughter and ask if she should get a Hebrew woman to nurse him!

Well, I just had to share that with you all. I love it and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)

P.S. Did you realise that Jochebed actually kept the law that every son born to the Hebrews was to be cast into the river? I just now realised that. Sure she hid him for 3 months until she couldn’t hide him any more, and then put him in a basket, but she did put him on the river!

You Capture-Reaching

This picture is kind of fuzzy, but I thought it was a great picture for the reaching theme.  Don’t we all feel this way at times? Reaching so hard for something, and getting so frustrated because we can’t quite get it?  Many times we just need to quit trying to do things on our own and just let God take care of it!

Baby Reaching For Toy

After Midnight? No,,Not Me!

I am definately Not still awake, blogging, with one hand, holding the sweetest   6 month old baby boy on my lap at 12:59am! Nope, not me!

Okay, I must confess,, I am.

Yes, it’s been a wonderfull weekend that pretty much revolved around 3 coughing, snotting, feverish kids. That includes the sweet baby who is, at this very moment, wide awake and contently sitting on my lap chewing unmercifully on his thumb.  Everyones fevers are now gone, although the coughing up of phlegm can still be heard. Hopefully tomorrow I do not get more sick and that  it will end with the current scratchy throat and slight cough.

Well, baby is now getting a little antsy and is pulling running his fingers through my hair. I think it may be time to put him to bed, and then I will definately Not stay up and work on my header image for this blog some more!

That last part may or may not be true! :)

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

A Good Day

Yesterday was a very good day. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a few hours of peace during the day, what with a 6 month old, 3 year old and 6 year old boys. Usually the older two are running around, play fighting, real fighting (-: , asking me to help them with something, wanting something to eat, the list goes on and on….. Baby is a very good baby, but even good babies take up time and energy needing to be held, fed, played with, and I wouldn’t trade all of this for anything…

But, mommys need a break during the day and I don’t usually get that because usually my 3 yr old won’t go to sleep if I try to lay him down for a nap now unless he gets up fairly early, so I’ve stopped bothering to lay him down so I don’t have to spend all afternoon fighting him to stay in his bed. He is a very strong willed boy and even though he gets disciplined when he gets up out of bed, he’ll still keep doing it or sit there and cry the whole time and just won’t go to sleep. He’s been getting better at night about going to bed, finally, most likely due to not taking a nap during the day.

Anyway, so yesterday I had to get up before 7am to get baby and ds2(dear son #2) into the car to take daddy to work so we could have the car to be able to pick up ds1(dear son #1) from his cousins house where he had spent the night. When we got home after picking up ds1 around 10am and then picking up daddy for lunch around 11am, both boys were both really cranky and kept fighting about stuff. So about 1:30 I put ds2 down for a nap and he actually went to sleep really fast….of course he would, after being awake since before 7am!lol… And then I put baby down and since he had been awake for quite awhile that morning, he went to sleep quickly too. Then I had ds1 lay down on the couch for awhile. He doesn’t take naps at all anymore since he was 4 yrs old, but I do make him lay down sometimes if he’s really cranky and he will be nice and quiet for me.

So there I was with 3 kids in the house, yet it was quiet!! I briefly thought about just relaxing, but then I thought I would feel alot better if I was able to get some cleaning done. I was able to wash quite a few dishes (don’t have a dishwasher so I have to do it all by hand), and then I was able to fold most of the clothes from mount washmore that were piled high on the couch. I did a little work on the computer too. I let ds1 get up after about an hour and we did some work in his school workbook. All in all, it was about 2 hours of quiet bliss before baby woke up, and then it was another hour before ds2 woke up.

Awwww, so nice. Now we’ll see how today goes!

First Baby Teeth!

Well, our little guy finally had a tooth pop through last Saturday. Boy does time fly. He’s been teething hard for a couple months now, and drooling so much you’d think he could cause a flood! The great thing is that I felt in there Wednsday night and found that the other bottom tooth is poking through now too. No wonder he’s been so cranky! Two teeth at once,, poor guy.

It’s exciting, but at the same time, I know it won’t be long before he’s walking around and then not long after that he’ll be too big to hold. I look at my other two boys and it’s neat to see them grow, but then again I’d love to hold them as little babies again,, smiling at me with that little gummy smile,, thier little face lighting up when I walk in the room,, Ahhh babies,, God sure knew what he was doing and how to get us to reproduce more!LOL Even though they can make you insane with thier crying and keeping you up all night pacing the floor,, they make up for it with thier little baby cuteness and charm and make you almost forget the pain of child birth and the sleepless nights!

Enjoy your babies while you can, because they grow up so fast! Good night everyone….
